All About High Peaks Elite

It is the goal and commitment of the High Peaks Elite Distance Camp to create greater interest in higher-level training for the elite, or soon to be elite, junior male and female runners (U-20) in the United States and International running community.  The Mt. Van Hoevenberg Recreation Area offers the most ideal training venues in the Northeast United States for endurance training. At this training camp, athletes depend on each other as they run each day, or climb though the High Peaks area. With a focus on teaching the scientific and cognitive techniques involved with running, team work is the key to success of the camp, the athlete, and the dream of IMPROVEMENT.  The camp week involves 25 clinic hours, 25-50 running miles and 15-25 hiking-climbing miles.

Where We Train

The location of the High Peaks Elite Distance Camp at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York, allows us to train in the nearby mountainous area, The High Peaks, and at the same time use the world-class facility for further training and learning.  We will room and board at the Olympic Training Center with two to three athletes per room with private bath and shower. During the week, we will be able to study the biomechanics of each athlete via videotape analysis.

Our History

Since the first camp in April of 1991, over 6000 athletes from the United States and other countries have come away with greater confidence and a keener sense of their training.  They have had one of the peak experiences of their lives. With the insight gained, each runner has the opportunity to benefit from a greater appreciation of self and others.  High Peaks offers this training in a friendly, noncompetitive environment with other elite athletes through the experiences of a week-long camp. One of the most important benefits of the High Peaks Elite Distance Camp is that athletes develop life-long friendships with athletes from other schools, sections, states and countries.  They also develop long-lasting friendships with the many nationally recognized clinicians and high school and college coaches.
